MEET THE MAKERS
Hi I'm Matt, but most people call me Gem Daddy ;) I have traveled to 30 countries over the past 8 years. I love my puppy Zola and spoil her way too much. Chip cookies > Crumble. I am a legal citizen of Uganda and love her people. Hamilton the musical is the best thing ever. I can make fire with sticks and have spent months in the wilderness learning survival skills and working in wilderness therapy for troubled youth. I once delivered a baby in the African bush. Used to be an emo boy and played bass in a hardcore band and was also a rapper in a joke-rap duo called “The Bonus Bandits”. I served an LDS mission in Scotland and Ireland and am pretty decent at the accent so try me. I absolutely love what I do & the people I surround myself with.
I'm Shelby and I got my start in social media through running my own fiber art business, Bonfire Heart (shout outs). I'm 27 years old and grew up in the middle of nowhere in the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. I love all things art related: macrame, weaving, silversmithing, flower pressing, photography, etc. I enjoy long walks in the mountains. I LOVE Gem Studio because it encourages people within the community to connect with each other. Each person leaves with a smile and some new friends, and that makes me happy.
Hey guys I'm Rylie! I'm a student at the U of U but you can catch me mountain biking every free second I get. My wall sit record is 1 hour 15 minutes (challenge me sometime) and Captain Crunch is the superior cereal (am I wrong?) I love the Gem Studio because I get to meet so many awesome people while being creative. Let's make some rings!
The name's Sophia Karren Thomas. People call me Sophaloph. From the land of Highland, Utah. Silversmith instructor at The Gemstudio. Sophomore at Brigham Young University. A sucker for Hershey's chocolate and Hallmark movies. I write poems and say them out loud sometimes. Making rings with a bunch of gems (lovely people) is my absolute favorite. These new best friends of mine leave the studio with a piece of jewelry they designed, which in the end contributes to a good cause. So happy. So content. That's the best part.
I'm a small town Wyoming girl caught in the state of Utah. I recently graduated from BYU with a degree in Human Development and a minor in international development. I'm obsessed with corndogs, laughter, shopping at Target, and cute old grandpas. My guilty pleasures include traveling, dancing, and watching The Bachelor. I love The Gemstudio because it is an awesome atmosphere to meet new friends, make new rings, AND working here means supporting two amazing causes that are changing lives on the other side of the world. I've had the opportunity to visit Uganda where the orphanage is located and it makes my heart so happy to know that each person who walks into the studio gets to be a part of changing these kiddos' lives!
Hello my name is Kirk. I am from Gilbert, Arizona, home of the world's most beautiful sunsets. Mexican food is the only food. I make a mean quesadilla. I will always take on a rap battle with absolutely no promise that I will perform well. I served an LDS mission in Tahiti, thanks to that I am no a legal resident of Bora Bora. I know the right way to pronounce the word "baguette". Oh, and I party harder than any other silversmith.
My name is Ally, I'm 18 and I'm from Phoenix, Arizona! I'm a full time student at BYU and I work as a silversmith instructor at The Gemstudio. If you know me, you know I love a good Latino and Spanish. I'm always looking to get weird with crafts and clothing. Silversmithing is my creative outlet, it's my happy place! Larimar is my favorite stone and I'm always down for a rowdy time in the studio. I'm a sucker for a solid award dove release. The key to my heart is a solid pair of heels and an evening stroll to Don Joaquin's.
Hey I’m Addy. I’m 20 and I am from Alpine, Utah. I enjoy hiking, climbing, and kayaking in 4 inches of water. I can almost do a taco tongue and I am even closer to landing a kick flip on my friends skateboard. I also am fluent in sarcasm & quotes from the movie Ice Age. I’ll laugh at anything you say & if it is a good night, my laugh will sound identical to Elmo’s. I enjoy peanut butter flavored anything and I am the proud owner of a Costco card. I love working at The Gemstudio because it gives me the ability to create unique pieces of jewelry and connect me to even more unique people.
Hi I'm Sage! I'm 18 and from Alpine, Utah. I thrive on spontaneity and trying new things, going to new places, and meeting new friends. I'm the type of girl who stops to pet every dog. UGH, love them! If I don't say hi to you after a session it was probably my twin sister you saw, we are identical - but I'm a better silversmith ;) Love, love, love this job! Come make a ring with me!
Hi, I'm Austin! I am 22 and am from Mesa, Arizona. I love being active and staying busy. Being from Arizona, I practically live at the lake in the summer and will do anything to go wake surfing. I'm currently attending UVU and am studying exercise science in hopes to attend dental school. Who knows where life will take me, though. I've always thought myself to be a pretty creative person through music and creating things with my hands. That's why I love working at The Gemstudio!
