What inspired this collection?
I was inspired originally by the star shaped stones! Back in the summer I was at Zion national park with my grandparents and one of the rock shops had fun star shaped gems that I thought would make the coolest rings, so I got a blue goldstone star and made a ring with it. Everyone loved it and it is one of my favorite rings I ever made. After that we got some stars and moons into Gem Studio, and I thought they would be perfect for a new year collection! I love all things sparkly and glittery so I tried to make this collection represent the fun and excitement that a new year brings!
Tell us about yourself! What do you do outside of Gem Studio?
I’m in my third year at the University of Utah studying business! I spend a lot of my time on campus with my friends and one of my favorite things is going to Utah football games and being in the MUSS. I’m involved in student government, the strategic leadership center, business scholars, and a few other organizations on campus that all keep me pretty busy. Outside of that I’m working on developing an apparel brand with my best friend that’s centered around equality and anti-bullying!
What are you most passionate about?
I love creating and helping people. I always love to take on projects and be part of organizations that leave an impact on people and make a difference in their lives. Whether it’s through art, event planning, business, etc. there’s nothing more fulfilling to me than taking an idea, bringing it to life, and seeing the joy it brings people. I’m such a sentimental person so creating a collection with these star gems and knowing people all over the world will wear them is the coolest thing to me!
What is currently playing on your Spotify?
The Neighbourhood, Role Model, Tyler the Creator, Taylor Swift, and Doja Cat are some of my favs right now!
What’s your favorite thing to do in Utah?
I’m a summer Utah kinda person, I love going boating on any of the beautiful lakes and wakeboarding. I also love floating down the Provo river!
Tell us about your study abroad, where are you going? And how long?
I leave so soon! January 10th I’m going to study Information Systems in Rome for two months, and then I’ll go to Barcelona for one month after that! I’ll miss Gem while I’m gone but I’ll be back ;)
What are you most excited for while on your study abroad?
I’m so excited to immerse myself in another culture, experience a new way of life, learn a lot, and make more new friends!
What do you want to manifest in your life over the next year?
I have had a feeling for so long that 2022 is going to be one of the best years yet and that so much good change is coming! I’m manifesting lots of travel and embracing new experiences. I’m manifesting happiness for myself, my friends, and my family, and that 2022 will have good vibes all year and lots of lifelong memories are made :)
What is your favorite gem, and why?
I’ve always loved blue gems and anything with a little sparkle. Lots featured in this collection are my favorites, especially labradorite, blue lace agate, and blue goldstone! I think they’re all so fun and unique and look great on everybody!
What is your favorite part of the silversmithing process?
Probably grinding the bezel on the lapidary and seeing the vision of the jewelry start to come to life!
What's your favorite gem studio memory?
I love how close the Gem fam is and the fact that every time I go to work I’m hanging out with my friends. Every silversmith at Gem has such a fun and unique personality and style and I have so many good memories of us just laughing and enjoying life in the studio, so it’s hard to pick a favorite!
