One of our most popular stones that customers ask about is Larimar! We love it here at the studio so and so do most of you, so we wanted to teach you more about it.
Unique with its ocean-like patterning, this gem will make you feel like you are headed to the beach for the day, and who doesn’t want that?! Larimar is unique to the Dominican Republic and its blue waters. The gem was even named after the sea when the stone was officially discovered in 1974. Miguel Méndez gave the stone its name by combining his daughter’s name Larissa and the Spanish word for the sea, mar. Everything about this beautiful gem emulates the ocean, and we are here for it!
While Larimar is unique to the Carribean, its ancestor is not. Larimar is a variety of a gem called Pectolite, which can be found around the world and is white in its natural form. While naturally white, many different colored varieties can be found worldwide, including Larimar, its blue variety.
Larimar’s healing properties are known to heal and enlighten. These properties go further than just healing the physical body, they also heal the mental, emotional, and spiritual mind. Many writings regarding this gem mention that Larimar is highly beneficial when it comes to releasing negative thoughts and stress in your life, which we could all use help with sometimes, right? Larimar is also known for its high spirituality in regards to chakras because it is able to work within all of them, from the heart chakra to the crown chakra.
