Summer's Hawaii Collection

Tell us about yourself! What do you do outside of Gem Studio?

My name is Summer, I’m originally from Southern California, but I've been living on the islands for the last 4 years.! Outside of the Gemstudio I surf, hike,play soccer and go camping. I'm a huge fan of getting outside and being in nature! I also used to teach line dancing so anything that involves country music and dancing i'm there!

What inspired this collection?

I’ve collected some of my favorite shells and seaglass throughout the last few years from the islands of Hawaii. Some pieces were found freediving and others just walking alongside the beach. I was fortunate enough to turn one of my shells into a ring and everytime i wear it, it reminds me of home. So I was inspired to share a piece of my heart and home with other people. Hawaii means the world to me and so making a collection that represents such a special place dear to my heart that other people would cherish too is exactly what I wanted to share with the world!

What are you most passionate about?

I’m very passionate about having some sort of creative outlet with painting and making things! One day I was driving along and I saw a hand painted sign nailed to a street pole that said “smile”. It made me realize that I hadn’t smiled all morning. So I started making hand painted signs and putting them in random spots around the island with the intention to uplift and give a little love to someone’s day!

What is currently playing on your Spotify/Apple Music?

Oh man, definitely my playlist called “ Summer of 2017” ! It brings me back to the Summer when I first moved to Hawaii and is so nostalgic. It literally never gets old for me, some of my favorite tunes!

What do you want to manifest in your life over the next year?

Hmm...Prince charming to come sweep me off my feet.

What is your favorite thing to do on the Island?

My favorite thing to do on the island is to go on a good hike or a sunset surf and end the day with camping somewhere! There’s nothing like sleeping on a ridge beneath the stars or on a beach and then waking up to a beautiful sunrise.

What do you think is the most exciting thing about Gem opening in Hawaii?

I think it's the fact that it's two of my favorite things coming together. My job as a Silversmith and my favorite place in the world. What more can I ask for? God is so good!

What is your favorite gem, and why?

My favorite gem would have to be turquoise hands down! I love that it comes in a variety of forms and colors.And it was my very first gem that I ever made a ring with at The Gemstudio. I was so sad about it because when I came back to Hawaii I lost it surfing!

What is your favorite part of your job?

The creativity and connections that you get to be a part of! I love being a part of the process of making someone's experience at the gemstudio so memorable and something they can be stoked about! I’ve literally made friends with customers and have hung out with them outside of the studio countless times! My current roommate is a girl I worked alongside with! The Gemstudio brings not only people together but it brings lifelong friendships as well.

What is your favorite gem studio memory?

My favorite Gem Studio memory was when I got the news that they were opening a Gem Studio in Hawaii and I was offered an opportunity to be a part of that! I get to work as a Silversmith and I get to be in my favorite place in the whole world! What an adventure these past few months have led me to!
