Tell us about yourself! What do you do outside of Gem Studio?
Hey guys! My name is Coby Woolsey, I’m originally from Cedar City, but I am now living up here in good ol’ SLC :) When I’m not working at the Gem Studio, you can find me hanging out with my friends, laying out in the sun, taking photos, or traveling anywhere and everywhere I can!
What inspired this collection?
My Renaissance Collection is inspired by the meaning of the word Renaissance, which means “rebirth.” Right now, as a society, I believe we are going through a sort of rebirth and I hope that the pieces in the collection can inspire people to be a little kinder, remember to look out for one another, and celebrate human uniqueness.
What are you most passionate about?
As I’m getting older I’m realizing my biggest passion in life is exploring and experiencing as much of the world as I can. I love meeting new people, and visiting places I’ve never been before. I love making people happy, and I’m very passionate about spreading kindness.
What is currently playing on your Spotify/Apple Music?
My music taste is honestly all over the place. My current favs are Olivia Rodrigo (go stream SOUR rn), Kanye West (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is the best album, and a blessing to this world), Miley Cyrus, and Doja Cat. But if you know me, you know that Cher will forever be my queen and she always be bumpin in my speakers.
What do you want to manifest in your life over the next year?
I want to manifest travelling this year. I really hope, as the world is opening back up, that we can get back to connecting with our fellow humans, and exploring the world around us again. Also manifesting more smiles, as we get to see everyone’s cute faces again :,) literally makes me cry thinking about it.
What is your favorite gem, and why?
My favorite gem is Buffalo Turquoise. Some might say that’s a basic, gem-studio-hoe answer...but it’s the truth! I love the variation of darks and lights, and each gem has a unique blend of black and white mixed throughout.
What is your favorite part of the silversmithing process?
My favorite part of the silversmithing process are the very beginning and the very end steps. The beginning step being the design process: it’s fun to see how creative people are and how time and time again, customers come up with new and unique ideas. The end step is also very satisfying because you get to see your piece come to life as you set the stone and burnish the edges.
What is your favorite gem studio memory?
My favorite Gem Studio memory is probably when Matt tased me with the fire starter haha. Or when I accidentally broke the key off in the door and locked everyone out of the Gem Studio. So many good memz.
